It won't happen 10-20 times per trip if you push the button! As far as turbos- all that "technical" info, is out of date. These turbos use vacuum waste gates, so they're not turning at any great speeds around town as the waste gates are open. From the "technical" posts on the site from people with no engineering knowledge, one could be forgiven for assuming that Ford went out of its way to destroy the engines and turbos with the auto-stop start so they could process extremely expensive warranty claims for five years. Really?

why are some of you arguing the indefensible? they could have made it without the stupid switch, or with it remembering last position, they chose the dumb option, the switch is gay!!

Ford has been using this tech since 2012. Nearly 10 years later and I haven’t heard much issues long term. I think our engines will be just fine. Having said that, I probably still will add the mod at some point to turn it off completely just because I think as a user, I should be able to do that.

Wheew! Thanks for giving me permission to spend money on something you feel is completely meaningless...It showed up yesterday. Glad that's over with...
BTW, I know it can be turned off with a calibration also.

I guess it depends more or less on what you consider long term...Things will probably be fine for the first 5yr/60k while the factory powertrain warranty is covered, but what happens 100k-200k? It's partially a preventive maintenance thing in my eyes. Kind of like the catch can

I've had the A/S E on my ST since day one, and my wife has one on her edge ST, been there for a year and a half. What the device does is gives the choice back to you, not what ford decides. It basically takes it from a default on to remembering the last position. That is how it should come from the factory then I think it would more widely accepted, but ford choose to have it default to on. Sure you only have to take a half second to press it and turn it off, but we shouldn't have to. We should only have to press it once to turn it off, and never touch it again, unless we want to. And griping about a measly $100, really? You spent 50K+ on a sporty suv and you complaining about $100. I spend that much on a bottle of bourbon.

The reason the car will always default to auto start stop being on is simply to meet EPA requirements and parameters. I wouldn’t be surprised if ford initially wanted to have it work like the brake hold button. But in order to meet the parameters they need with the EPA, it has to be set to on and always start on by default. I also think that’s the same reason the drive mode always starts in regular mode and you can’t set it to sport mode by default on startup.

IIRC Porsche and BMW buttons remember previous settings , so Im not sure EPA requires it to default to on

Likely whatever epa ratings ford achieved, required auto start stop to be on by default. That’s why ford did it that way I would imagine. It’s stupid but I’m sure that’s the case or something along those lines.

Porsche and BMW don't pump out a million trucks a year that factor into the C.A.F.E. standards either. Because of all those low mileage trucks, ford has to squeeze every possible drop of fuel economy out of every other vehicle they make to offset the trucks. That is why ford makes the autostop default to on.

It especially makes sense that the only engine ford allowed the removal of auto start stop this year was the more fuel efficient 2.3L. Yet the removal option wasn’t allowed on any of the 3.0L.

The Eliminator is simply a labor saving device, much like automatic headlight activation. There are a lot of similar automatic features in these cars, and all of them cost money.

Wish they made one for my daughter's new VW Tiguan. Yes my wife's BMW remembers setting.

aren't trucks exempt from CAFE standards?

I was just reading the Aviator does not have a console button to disable Auto-Start. It requires getting to a menu on the touch screen to disable it. This is every time you start the engine. Ugh! The Eliminator will permanently disable it.

Ill stick with the factory ASS eliminator, I like being able to control it. If Im sitting at a long light or for a train to pass, Ill flip it back on, but normal driving, its off. I cant see paying 100 bucks extra for something that is already installed, and once again, I control it!

That's what is great about this country. If you choose to always turn it off everytime you get in the car, that is your choice. But for me a 100 bucks is worth it to me so I don't have to remember to turn it off everytime.
